Why study crime, justice and legal studies?

Crime, justice and legal studies provide tools to understand and critically analyze the role of law and its place within broader social, cultural, political and economic contexts.

You'll be introduced to different disciplinary perspectives that offer insight into the nature, impacts and significance of law. You'll apply this knowledge to investigate a range of local and global issues, including citizenship, human rights and social justice, crime and criminal justice, law and popular culture.

You will reflect upon the relationship between law, policy and social change and develop strategies to identify and creatively address socio-legal problems.

Where can crime, justice and legal studies take me?

Crime, justice and legal studies trains you for careers in a range of fields including community services, social welfare, human rights, criminal justice and legal education. It prepares you to work in both government and non-government sectors, in advocacy, policy evaluation, policy development and research.

Further study options

If you're an undergraduate with a major in crime, justice and legal studies, and a strong academic record, an Honours year will give you the chance to explore a specialized area of study.

Complete the Honours program with high grades to qualify for entry into the Masters by Research or PhD program.
