Program Overview

Acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to resolve conflict at work, influence government policy, and build and manage productive work relationships.

As a workplace and labour studies student, you will learn to improve the working world through teaching, research, and community outreach.

Partner with workplaces, the labour movement, and community organizations to conduct local research, and engage in public policy debates. Study issues such as low-wage work, disability rights, and equity. Gain valuable real-world experience with 300 hours of 3rd and 4th-year work placements in the local community.

In Workplace and Labour Studies, students are prepared for careers that improve work and strengthen communities. It offers undergraduate degrees as well as career-long learning for professionals that are both practical and applied.

Career Opportunities

Graduates can rest assured knowing there is a multitude of career options they can explore post-graduation. Some career options include, but are not limited to:

  • Human resources and business management
  • Labour law
  • Occupational health and safety
  • Labour arbitration and mediation
  • In a union as a researcher or organizer.

Many of these careers can be found in the public and private sector.

All secondary school applicants must successfully complete six Grade 12 4U/M courses and receive the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). Minimum overall 'B' average (or GPA 3.0 on a 4.0 scale) in a recognized academic grade 12 program. At least 4 different academic subjects at the matriculation level must be represented in the high school diploma. (A SAT I score of 1,650 or composite ACT of 24 is recommended, but not required). English Language Requirements: Internet-based TOEFL (iBT) - Test Of English as a Foreign Language: 88 overall; Computer-based TOEFL (CBT) - Test Of English as a Foreign Language: 230 overall; IELTS Academic - International English Language Testing System: 6.5 overall No band lower than 6.0; Cambridge Assessment English: C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency with a Cambridge Score of 176 or more; CAEL - Canadian Academic English Language Assessment: 70 overall No part below 60; Canadian Test of English for Scholars and Trainees - CanTEST: 4.5 overall No part below 4; PTE Academic - Pearson Test of English: 60 overall.
