The doctoral programs in computer science offer students high quality, cutting edge research opportunities and supervision by world leaders in their respective fields. Graduates of our program have gone on to work for industry leading companies such as HP Labs and Pixar Animation Studios.

Our doctoral program provides students with intensive training in the scientific enterprise for those wishing to pursue academic or industrial research careers. Graduates of this program are qualified to seek positions in the research and development units of large technology companies or to pursue independent research careers as university professors.

The Plant Phenotyping and Imaging Research Centre (PIRC) is a new $37M initiative at the University of Saskatchewan that will drive transformative innovation in plant breeding through powerful new computational techniques to digitize desired crop traits (phenotypes) and link them to specific genes. In support of this project, we are looking for graduate students in the following fields:

  • Data acquisition and analysis
  • Bioinformatics for linking genotypes to phenotypes
  • Big data analytics
  • Web systems and collaboration
  • Algorithmic modeling of digital plants

A cumulative weighted average of at least 70% (U of S grade system equivalent) in the Master's degree. Demonstrated ability for independent thought, advanced study, and research. TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): Fully qualified: Overall score of 86 with minimum scores of 19 in each area; IELTS (International English Language Testing System): Fully qualified: Overall score of 6.5 with no score below 6.0 in each area; CanTEST (Canadian Test of English for Scholars and Trainees): Fully qualified: Overall score of 4.5 with minimum scores of 4.5 in each area; PTE (Pearson Test of English): Fully qualified: Overall score of 63 with minimum scores of 59 in each area; University of Regina: Intensive ESL Advanced Level (ESL 50)l Plus completion of Academic Writing Elective A - Minimum score of 60% ; U-PREP 2: University Preparation 2 from the U of S Language Centre - Minimum score of 75% ; CAEL (Canadian Academic English Language): Minimum score of 70%, with minimum individual scores of 60
