ماذا سوف أتعلم؟

The University of Lethbridge is a leader in Indigenous studies and management education. The certificate and degree programs are offered through an innovative partnership between the Dhillon School of Business and the Department of Indigenous Studies. The programs present a unique blend of studies in Indigenous governance and core business concepts, providing graduates with skills to take leadership roles in their communities and in management, entrepreneurial enterprises, band administration, First Nations' liaison work and self-government.

If you are you interested in Indigenous culture, traditions, communities and issues and would like to learn more about Indigenous management, business, economic and community development, then the IGBM program is for you. The IGBM program welcomes both Indigenous and non-Indigenous students.

About the Indigenous Governance major

Students majoring in Indigenous governance study topics such as Indigenous peoples and law, historical and legal aspects of Indigenous governments, Indigenous business and entrepreneurship, Indigenous peoples and natural resources, and Canadian Indigenous negotiations. You will also acquire skills in finance, accounting, human resources and organizational behaviour.

Students have access to support services including Elders, award-winning faculty members, mentoring, small class sizes, interactive learning and the opportunity to participate in an active and supportive Indigenous Students’ Union, the Youth Mentorship Program and an Indigenous student club.

Students gain significant insight into Indigenous historical, political, legal and economic issues while acquiring strong business skills and managerial competency. For the degree, students choose one of two streams:

  • Indigenous Governance
  • Indigenous Business Management

Management Certificate

If you’re changing your focus professionally or if you do not wish to pursue an entire degree, complete a 10-course management certificate in this area of study. If you are employed full-time, we also welcome part-time students.
