The MSc in Translation Technology is a one-year, full-time or two-year part time (day time classes) programme at Dublin City University which provides advanced technical training, an essential element in the world of translation in the twenty-first century. It welcomes students with languages other than those covered by the MA in Translation Studies (i.e. French, German, Irish, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese), with English as a common language.
Students on this course take modules including Software Development, Translation Technology, Localisation, Audio Visual Translation, Digital Methods in Language and Discourse and Computerised Terminology.
The MSc in Translation Technology at DCU is a member of the prestigious European Masters in Translation (EMT) Network established by the Directorate-General for Translation at the European Commission. This has established the MSc programme as one of the most prestigious in Europe.
The MSc in Translation Technology:
Students on the MSc in Translation Technology take core modules Translation Technology, Computerised Terminology, Translation Technology, Translation Theory, Research Methodologies, Localisation, Audio Visual Translation, Digital Methods in Language and Discourse and Software Development. Optional modules may include specialised translation, Translation in Crisis and Information Access.
Students write a dissertation over the course of the summer months. Alternatively, they may opt for a three-month work placement in Ireland or abroad.
Careers
Graduates from the MSc in Translation Technology will have an excellent knowledge and understanding of technologies relating to the translation profession, making them highly sought after by employers
Graduates from the MSc in Translation Technology can become professional translators, working in the translation departments of large companies or on a freelance basis for agencies or for direct clients.
Graduates may also be eligible for the competitive examinations leading to employment in the Translation Divisions of EU Institutions or other international organizations.
Some graduates may wish to continue their studies to doctoral level at DCU or elsewhere.

For admission to the MSc in Translation Technology, successful applicants will have:
English language Requirements
Non-native speakers should have a degree in English or advanced English skills (e.g. IELTS 7.0 points, Cambridge Proficiency Pass or TOEFL 600/250 points). Applicants may be called for interview, and their levels of English tested.
CBTOEFL - Overall score 237.
TOEFL iBT - Overall score 92 or above.
English Test for Academic and Professional Purposes (ETAPP) - C1
Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CAP) - Postgraduate: Overall score of 180 with a minimum of 169 in all components.
Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) - Postgraduate: Overall score of 180 with a minimum of 169 in all components.
Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic) - 63 with a minimum of 59 in all components.
Duolingo - Duolingo will be accepted with a minimum score of 120 and a score of at least 110 in each subscore.
