ماذا سوف أتعلم؟

In the English-taught bachelor's program in Data Science, you learn to analyze the large amounts of data that today's society operates on. You learn to spot trends for businesses, government agencies or nonprofit organizations. Besides the technical side of the program, you will be focusing on societal issues - legal, social, ethical, business, and entrepreneurial - relating to Data Science.

Program

Data Science, a joint bachelor’s program offered by Tilburg University and Eindhoven University of Technology, is a small-scale, interdisciplinary course of study on an international topic. You will be taking courses at both universities.

In the first year, you are introduced to the various Data Science core fields. You develop a mathematical base which you will build on during the rest of your studies. The courses taught include Calculus and Data Statistics. You also become familiar with the various perspectives on Data Science and you complete your first Data Challenge.

In the second year, you study the legal, economic, mathematical, and technical aspects of data research in more depth. You determine part of your program yourself by selecting elective modules, which allows you to set the focus of your program. You will apply all your acquired knowledge and skills in two Data Challenges.

Entrepreneurship plays a greater role in the third year, which features courses such as Start-ups and Business Insights. There is a more extensive choice of electives, so that you can make sure the courses you choose provide the best preparation for the Master’s program you are looking to take. You round off the Bachelor’s program with a Bachelor's thesis.

Career prospects

With your English-taught Bachelor’s in Data Science, you could work as a data scientist in international jobs. You are someone who can translate questions within an organization to technical data issues and vice versa. You can also decide to work as a data entrepreneur, running your own data science company, or as a specialist within a larger company.

Because data science is important in many industries you can be employed in a wide range of companies and nonprofit/governmental institutions. Companies may want to know more about the purchasing behavior of their customers: for instance, the police use big data to detect crime and healthcare shares global data in order to be able to do better research on rare diseases.
