The Bachelor of Applied Management aims to produce graduates with the personal and professional skills necessary to be successful in demanding and evolving business environments, whether locally, nationally, or internationally.

The programme offers a blend of theoretical and practical learning, with an emphasis on applied knowledge and skill. High importance is placed on the development of the soft skills for management (such as communication, business writing, presentation, interpersonal, and problem solving skills), in addition to the development of specific business knowledge and skills.

  • Occupational Health and Safety

Double majors available:

Project Management / Applied Management (465 credits)
Event Management / Applied Marketing (450 credits)

Programme Structure

Project Management major: 360 credits total

Year One: 120 credits
Compulsory papers: MGT100, 101, 103, 104 & 105 (15 credits each)
Elective papers: 45 credits made up of three additional papers from the Year 1 electives list: MGT102, 106, 107, 108, 109, 110, 111, 112, 113, 114 or 115 (15 credits each)

Year Two: 120 credits
Compulsory papers: MGT200, 206, 209, 210, 211, 212, 213, 214 (15 credits each)

Year Three: 120 credits
Compulsory papers: MGT301, 302, 303, 309 (15 credits each) and one of: MGT310 or MGT320 (30 credits)
Elective papers: 30 credits made up of two additional papers from the Year 2 or Year 3 elective lists: MGT201, 202, 203, 204, 205, 207, 208, 215, 216, 217, 218, 219, 220, 221, 222, 223, or MGT304, 305, 306, 308, 312. (15 credits each)

Career Opportunities

At the completion of the programme, students will:

  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills relevant to the various areas of applied management, including key ideas, principles, and concepts associated with the theory and application of papers;
  • Be confident, capable, and professional practitioners and learners;
  • Gather and assess information from a variety of sources, undertake analysis of this data, and use this to solve problems;
  • Be able to think critically, analyse relevant issues, and discuss these within the context of management in a logical and competent manner;
  • Understand, apply, and communicate principles and concepts within the applicable management sector; and
  • Have developed professional knowledge and applied skills appropriate for the needs of clients within the applicable management sector.

Project Management major

In addition to the skills listed for the overall programme, graduates from the Bachelor of Applied Management with a major in Project Management will critically analyse strategic issues facing organisations, develop and implement appropriate policies and develop and implement procedures and processes to enable the successful implementation of specific projects, which are outside the ‘business as usual’ scope of operations.

Educational Pathways

Further educational opportunities for graduates may include enrolling in postgraduate study, for example the SIT Postgraduate Diploma in Business Enterprise.

Employment Pathways

Graduates will be qualified to work in a range of project management disciplines in both the public and private sectors.

Applicants must have SAT I and SAT II score of minimum 500/part. IELTS test - Academic score of 6 with no band score lower than 5.5; TOEFL Paper based test (pBT) - Score of 550 (with an essay score 5 TWE); TOEFL Internet based test (iBT) - Score of 60 (with a writing score of 18); Cambridge English Examination -B2 First or B2 First for schools or C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency with a score of 169. No less than 162 in each skill. OET - Minimum of Grade C or 200 in all sub-tests; Pearson Test of English (Academic) - PTE (Academic) score of 50 with no band score lower than 42; Language Cert - C1 Expert IESOL (LRWS) with PASS and no less than Pass in each skill; Trinity ISE - ISE II with no less than distinction in any band.

Mature Applicants

Be at least 20 years of age when the programme begins, and provide evidence of aptitude or appropriate work experience.

English Language Requirements

Applicants whose first language is not English, or who come from a country where the language of instruction in schools is not English, must meet the English proficiency outcomes as below:

  • IELTS test – Academic score of 6, with no band score lower than 5.5
  • TOEFL Paper-based test (pBT) – Score of 550 (with an essay score of 5 TWE)
  • TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT) – Score of 60 (with a writing score of 20)
  • University of Cambridge English Examinations – FCE, or FCE for schools, or CAE, or CPE with a score of 169. No less than 162 in each skill
  • Pearson Test of English (Academic) – PtoE (Academic) score of 50
  • City & Guilds IESOL – B2 Communicator with a score of 66
  • LanguageCert – C1 Expert IESOL (LRWS) with PASS
