Interested in a chemical engineering degree?
A chemical engineering degree lets you explore the processing of materials and the production or utilization of energy through chemical and biochemical reactions. People with a chemical engineering degree work in research and development, design and construction, environmental and waste management, and in the operation of process plants. They perform experiments and interpret data, design plants, and design and test equipment for new facilities. They also design waste treatment facilities and develop new ways to reduce pollution and manage the daily activity of manufacturing plants.
Students working toward a chemical engineering degree can choose a concentration in biochemical engineering, bioenergy, biomedical engineering, environmental engineering, food science, or polymer science and engineering.
Alumni Pursuits
Chemical engineering graduates are prepared for careers in chemical processing, biotechnology, environmental remediation, traditional and sustainable energy, food processing, pharmaceuticals and plastics industries. People with a chemical engineering degree may work in research, development, design, sales, production or in the engineering and management of process plants. These functions can be performed in a wide variety of areas, such as the chemical process industries, the petroleum and related (coal and shale) industries, pollution control, nuclear energy, biology and medicine, food, business and patent law. Students with a chemical engineering degree are also well prepared for careers in the biomedical engineering industry and medical school.
