Full-time undergraduate students are eligible to receive a Welsh Medium Study Scholarship if they satisfy the criteria regarding studying the specified number of credits a year through the medium of Welsh where possible, rather than through English. Eligible candidates will be identified automatically, according to their degree scheme and module choices; it is not necessary to apply for one of these awards. All full-time undergraduate courses are eligible for consideration, with the exception of courses wholly offered by the Department of Welsh and Celtic Studies. In the case of joint honours or major: minor schemes offered by the Department of Welsh and Celtic Studies, the course will be eligible where the Welsh-medium credits have been obtained from modules in the ‘other’ subject area, i.e. the subject area not provided by the Department of Welsh and Celtic Studies. Modules offered by the Department of Welsh and Celtic studies will be included as eligible for students who are studying a degree scheme within another Department. Payment will be made direct to award holders’ bank accounts at the start of March each year the award holder remains eligible. The eligibility of all students for these scholarships will be reassessed on an annual basis. If a student does not satisfactorily complete the required Welsh-medium credits or changes to an ineligible module after the payment has been made, they will be required to repay the sum received. This applies from academic year 2023/24; awards will not be backdated. Payments will not be made to exchange students, for repeat years, sandwich years, years in employment, years abroad etc.
