The Doctor of Medical Science recognises a successful research experience. This degree requires an original and significant contribution to knowledge in an approved area. The degree of Doctor of Medical Science may be awarded by the Council on the recommendation of the Higher Degree Committee of the Faculty of Medicine (hereinafter referred to as the Committee) to a candidate who has made an original and meritorious contribution to some branch of medicine. The contribution is expected to amount to a significant body of novel, published scholarly work that establishes the candidate as an authority in an area of research, commanding national and international recognition for their contribution to medical science.

للطلاب الدوليين

A candidate for the degree shall have been awarded an appropriate degree of Bachelor with Honours from the University of New South Wales or a qualification considered equivalent from another university or tertiary institution at a level acceptable to the Research Committee of the appropriate Faculty. Candidates may be admitted to the PhD program after one year's full-time enrolment in a Masters by Research program, with the approval of the Faculty Postgraduate Affairs Committee. In exceptional cases an applicant who submits evidence of such other academic and professional qualifications as may be approved by the Committee may be permitted to enrol for the degree.
