High School Preparation Programme

Charlton Brown

The intensive Charlton Brown High School Preparation classes consist of 25 hours of face-to-face instruction per week. Attention is given to developing all macro-skills (Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking) as students engage in theme-based study. Students will learn about Australian culture and school culture. Teachers will also equip students with the language skills needed to participate in and succeed in the mainstream classroom. Additionally, students will receive instruction in Maths, Science and Computer Technology, along with skills for developing learner autonomy. A particular focus is given to fostering learner autonomy, as Charlton Brown recognises the importance of student achievement beyond the HSP Programme. Students will have the opportunity to write academic papers, give spoken presentations, participate in class activities, and access online learning resources. Continuous assessment of students' learning will provide the feedback necessary to stay on track for entering the mainstream classroom at the expected date.
