The Master of Teaching at Southern Cross University is a comprehensive two-year program that qualifies graduates to teach in Australia and many countries internationally. Teaching offers a rewarding opportunity to positively influence the lives of children and young people across a lifetime.Students can choose to specialise in one of three streams:Early Childhood EducationPrimary EducationSecondary EducationEach specialisation has specific start dates and availability. The course includes a significant professional experience component, requiring 480 hours of placement in early childhood settings, schools, and/or community sites. All professional placement requirements, including conduct and prerequisite checks, must be met as outlined by the Faculty of Education Professional Experience Requirements.In addition to practical placements, students undertake an education research project that builds academic and practical expertise. For Primary and Secondary specialisations, students must successfully complete the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students (LANTITE) during their first year. This requirement does not apply to Early Childhood students.Full-time study may be required from January to December (six teaching terms) depending on the chosen program. Applicants to the Primary or Secondary specialisations must complete an online questionnaire, including two 500-word written statements addressing motivation, suitability for teaching, and involvement in learning or leadership activities.Please note: Primary and Secondary teaching specialisations require prior studies in discipline-specific content. Students without a relevant academic background may need to complete additional units to meet the curriculum requirements.
