A Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree involves original and sustained research, mentored by an academic supervisor. It’s an opportunity to make new discoveries, address some of the big issues of our time, challenge yourself, and develop a mix of transferable and specialised skills. Choose from a range of flexible, relevant study options-from advanced degrees of international reputation, to short courses for busy professionals. To be accepted into this programme you will need:

Either a Bachelors degree with Honours or a Masters degree from a New Zealand university, with an overall GPA of no less than 6 (letter grade B+);

Or to be currently enrolled in a Masters thesis at the Victoria University of Wellington and meet the requirements for conversion to a PhD;

Or be able to produce evidence to the satisfaction of the Dean, Wellington Faculty of Graduate Research, of adequate training and ability to proceed with the proposed course for the degree—see note below about qualifications from universities outside New Zealand.

As well as qualifying for entry, you will need to be accepted by the relevant Head of School and Associate Dean of Postgraduate Research.
