Doctor of Philosophy - Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages

A Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree involves original and sustained research, mentored by an academic supervisor. It’s an opportunity to make new discoveries, address some of the big issues of our time, challenge yourself, and develop a mix of transferable and specialised skills. Our postgraduate TESOL programmes provide pre-service and in-service teachers of second or foreign languages with in-depth knowledge and tools to advance their teaching skills. These programmes explore a range of contemporary themes in language education. Teachers studying in the programme are encouraged to reflect on challenges in their teaching context and to carry out small-scale exploratory research. You'll be taught by internationally-recognised researchers who draw on their extensive experience as language teachers and teacher educators to bridge the gap between research, theory, and teaching practice. If you choose to study a Master of Arts in TESOL, it can be done by coursework, thesis, or a combination of both.
