Real world experiences you will love

You will have the opportunity to take part in community functions and events, and will be rostered onto services in our training restaurant, The Rata Room.

Students have run pop-up cafes, services for specialty events including Rotary around the World Dinner, Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori dinner service, supported the Wakatū Incorporation 40th anniversary dinner and provided catering for the VIPS at the All Black's game.

Career opportunities and pathways

When you have completed this qualification you will be able to pursue intermediate-level employment and career opportunities as chefs in food production operations within the hospitality industry.

للطلاب الدوليين

  • Students are required to complete international qualifications equivalent to New Zealand NCEA Level 2.

English language requirements:

You must have a level of English sufficient to be able to study at this level. If your first language is not English you should have an international English Language Testing System (IELTS) overall academic score of at least 5.5 (with at least 5.0 in each band) issued within the last two years, or a qualification considered to be equivalent to the above:

  • TOEFL Paper based test (pBT) - Score of 530 (with an essay score of 4.5 TWE)
  • TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT) - Score of 46 (with a writing score of 20)
  • University of Cambridge English Examinations - FCE or FCE for schools with a score of 162. No less than 154 in each skill
  • Pearson Test of English (Academic) - PToE (Academic) score of 42
  • City & Guilds IESOL - B2 Communicator with a score of 42

Special Entry

Special Entry approval is required from the Curriculum Manager or delegate.
Skills for tertiary study (including literacy and numeracy) may be acquired through study, work and/or life experience. If you can demonstrate these skills you may apply for Special Entry.
Qualifications other than those listed in the Entry Requirements above will need to be assessed for equivalence, and applicants holding these qualifications will need to apply for Special Entry approval from the Curriculum Manager or delegate.
