Get involved with either sports, societies, or volunteering. This is an amazing way to meet people from other countries and cultures if you aren't getting that from your course, and make an intentional effort to move out of your comfort zone of people you interact with. Courses can also be very hectic, so make sure you mentally prepare for that too!

Connect with older peers! Either via clubs, department socials, mentoring or simply reaching out directly in an email. Having friends at different University stages is really useful so you can learn from their insights and experiences to make the most of yours!

Don't worry if you don't find where you fit in straight away! Friendships don't happen overnight, but make sure to join lots of societies, clubs and generally get involved as much as you can to give you the best opportunities to meet those who will be your friends for life!

Where are your favourite places to eat, and what kind of food can you get?

As an international student from India studying at Loughborough University London, I have been extremely surprised by the variety of food options that is available near the campus. The shuttle bus starts from Westfield mall which houses multiple foos options: from Vietnamese to Chinese to Turkish and Greek to Fast food to Indian. If you have the time and are craving some Indian food, I would suggest make the 25-min journey on the tube to East Ham. My favourite there is Vasantha Vilas which serves the most amazing dosas, sambar rice and every other possible South Indian delicacy. The taste is authentic and the prices are super affordable. On Sundays, the Mahalaxmi temple also offers sambar and rice to devotees for no cost.

In town, if you're looking for Indian food, I'd suggest giving Mount Gurkha a shot. Good food at a great price. What they lack in proper spacious seating, they more than make up for in taste. Recommend the chili chips, garlic naan, butter chicken, and the lamb Rogan josh. If you're up for Middle-Eastern food, I've loved the food at Tarboush although it's slightly pricier. Their food is authentic and I've always gotten good customer service. As for on-campus, I've always been satisfied with a meal from one of the many options available at the EHB Grill. Recommendations from friends have rarely gone wrong, so definitely ask around.

My favourite place is Sonny’s Street Food in town! It is right ourside of the student triangle, so its a short walk at night from most students homes, meaning that it is easy to get together with your friends to go out! Additionally, especially after living in London, I think this place is extremely cost efficient! It is also run by a local family so by eating there you are supporting the locals and the local economy!

As an international student from Hong Kong, i am always craving food that taste like home. As such, my favourite place to eat on Loughborough campus is Manchuhan at the Student Union! With a standard price, you can get large portions chinese dishes that towers your plate, and in my expeirence, tastes as authentic as it can be! My favourite thing to order would be their lunch set, which includes rice and 2-3 side dishes, such as Braised Beef, Go Lou Yok (sweet and sour pork), Tomato Egg Stir Fry and more! Since living alone, I have honed my cooking skills and is now able to make all sorts of cuisines. Plus, as I make friends from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds, I was able to learn plenty about dishes from across the globe!
