The Doctor of Philosophy in Education is for teachers and educators with a strong background in research who wish to explore a specialised education topic in-depth. The program will lead to a professional doctoral qualification, enhancing career prospects in leadership, research and advisory roles.This degree is a four-year (or part-time equivalent) supervised independent research project resulting in a thesis that makes a significant original contribution to the field of study.The Doctor of Philosophy in Education involves an in-depth research project and thesis conducted in one of the following specialisations: Digital Technologies for Learning, Educational Leadership, Literacy, Special Education (including Autism and Neurodivergence studies), and Teaching English to Speakers or Other Languages (TESOL).

An Honours degree at Class II, Division 1 or higher. A Research Masters with at least two-thirds of the degree comprising a thesis. A UOW Masters of Research with an equivalent average mark of 70+. A Coursework Masters with a substantial thesis and an equivalent average mark of 75+ or GPA 3.2 out of 4. Other forms of research experience may also be considered. Special Admissions Requirements - All applicants for research degrees must submit a written (preferably typed) proposal as part of their application. This proposal should Commence with a statement detailing any previous research or project experience you have undertaken, including, if possible, a copy of the abstract of such work. Contain, in no more than one additional page, a clearly focussed research proposal for the study you would wish to undertake throughout your registration in the course. Conclude with a statement of your motivation for wanting to undertake the research course
