Study the past and present role of women from a historical, societal, cultural, economic and literary perspective. Examine the role of gender in determining the course of individual lives and in structuring societies. You will explore how class, ethnicity, education and sexual orientation impact the lives of women around the world-and how gender influences all of our lives on a daily basis. Develop solid writing and analytical skills that can lead to careers in social work, communications, education and successful post-graduate study.You will apply a multi-disciplinary approach to the study of women’s and gender issues with subjects including anthropology, First Nations studies, history, and environmental studies.This program emphasizes two core themes:Appreciation and production of knowledge by, for, and about womenRole of gender in our own society, in other cultures, and in the pastExamine concepts of literary theory, colonialism, masculinity, globalization, feminism, and justice while you learn to think critically about the meaning of gender in society.
