Chemical engineering is a broad-based and a versatile discipline ideally suited to address the major global challenges of today in energy, water and the environment. Chemical engineers design innovative solutions to transform raw materials to useful products in a sustainable and economical way, reducing the environmental footprint and improving human health. Chemical and Biochemical Engineering at Western has an excellent national and international reputation due to renowned faculty, research intensiveness and state-of-the-art facilities. The undergraduate program at Western combines strong fundamentals in natural sciences, mathematics, process engineering design and economics. Our two options in Chemical and in Biochemical Engineering and dual degrees with Business, Law, Biomedical Engineering and Concurrent 5 year programs with Science, Social Science, Music and Art train engineers with skills to develop holistic solutions for clean water and air, carbon reduction, cleaner renewable fuels and life saving medicine. The capstone fourth-year design course involves students finding solutions to industrial problems in close cooperation with industry. In keeping with Western’s goal of providing the ''Best Student Experience'', our department engages students at every level, providing both academic and extra curricular activities for an enriched undergraduate experience.
