Biology is the scientific study of living organisms through which you gain a fundamental understanding of the world we live in. The subject is complex, fascinating and vital to all of our lives.
Establish your basic and advanced knowledge to succeed in a biology-related career. This degree will prepare you for entry into professional schools, such as medicine, dentistry, optometry or veterinary medicine programs.
Our Biology BSc. degree offers you the flexibility to pursue a specialization in Field Biology and Natural History, Applied Ecology, Ecology and Evolution, Zoology, Botany and Mycology, or Cell Biology and Genetics. We also offer two minors for students who are interested in biology but who are pursuing other degrees.
Program Details:
The Bachelor of Science in Biology degree is a broadly based undergraduate program that allows students to explore various biological concepts from the level of the cell, to the organism, to the ecosystem. Our degree offers students substantial flexibility to follow interests ranging from microbes to plants and animals to ecosystems and beyond.
Gain practical knowledge through our many on-campus, hands-on labs and by attending our various local and international field schools. Our faculty are actively involved in research and they provide ongoing opportunities for students to take part in cutting-edge studies.
Gain practical knowledge attending field schools at the Aleza Lake Research Forest, John Prince Research Forest and Quesnel River Research Centre.
Career Paths:
The Biology BSc. degree prepares you to apply to medical, dental, optometry, veterinary or other professional schools or to obtain further master's or PhD training at UNBC or elsewhere.
Our degree is fully accredited with the B.C. College of Applied Biology, which means that graduates have a simple path toward becoming Registered Professional Biologists. Accreditation is a requirement in many careers.

Entry requirements may vary from country to country, Students who complete their studies at an appropriate high school and/or recognized post-secondary institution will be considered for admission.
English language requirement:
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of 90 or higher in the internet-based test, with not less than 20 in each of the Reading, Listening, Writing or Speaking components; score of at least 230 in the computer-based test or at least 570 in the paper-based test.
IELTS (International English Language Testing System) Academic score of at least 6.5 overall, with not less than 6.0 in any of the four modules;
Duolingo English Test score of 105 or higher;
MELAB (Michigan English Language Assessment Battery) score of at least 80, with a minimum of 3 on the Speaking Rating Scale;
CAEL (Canadian Academic English Language) or the CAEL CE (Computer Edition) Assessment score of at least 70, with no subtest below 60;
A grade of B or better on Cambridge English Qualification C1 Advanced;
PTE (Pearson Test of English - Academic): overall score of 65, with not less than 60 in each of reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
