Learn the ins and outs of writing, editing and publishing in this unique program that fuses rigorous academics with practical experience. The creative writing component begins in second year and we cap enrolment in our writing courses at 25, guaranteeing you lots of attention and feedback on your work. We also offer a publishing practicum to give you a handson learning experience.

Sample Courses: Writing about Literature, Early British Literature, Writing Creatively, Creative Writing, Children’s Literature, Creative Writing Seminar.

  • Appreciating the collective human condition and major themes of human experience
  • Understanding the ways in which language and literature inform and reflect various cultures, social bodies, and historical periods

  • Asserting knowledge, ideas, and opinions in persuasive writing with correct grammar and vocabulary
  • Interpreting, reorganizing, and rephrasing written materials to improve or modify effectiveness

All programs require successful completion of the OSS Diploma and a minimum 70% average of six Grade 12 U or M courses, including ENG4U. Applicants who have completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma with a minimum overall score of 24, and passes in a minimum of 6 subjects including at least three courses at the Higher Level will be considered for admission to the University of Windsor. English Language Requirements: A minimum score of 6.5 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS); or A minimum score of 60 on the Carleton University’s Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL); or A minimum score of 60 on the Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE); or A minimum overall score of 176 on the Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) or the Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE); or Successful completion of the University of Windsor's English Language Improvement Program (ELIP) (level III) with a minimum final grade of 75%; or A minimum score of 85 on the English Proficiency Test administered by the English Language Institute of the University of Michigan (MELAB); or A minimum score of 220 with a T.W.E. 4.5 on the Computer-based Test, 83 with an essay score of 20 on the Internet-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (T.O.E.F.L.).

Course Requirements: Grade 12 English required. Grade 12 English Creative Writing recommended for Creative Writing majors. Minimum Average: 70%.
