The aim of this programme is to further develop L7 graduates’ theoretical, practical and reflective pedagogical competencies to become skilled professionals in early childhood education and care. Students build on previous and current learning through academic and practice-based learning, against a backdrop of a competent system in ECEC which encourages them to embrace a professional identity as an ECEC educator. Intra/interpersonal and professional practice skills are enhanced as students engage in professional practice in diverse ECEC/non-practice settings. Engagement in practice-related research enables students to synthesise contemporary theories, concepts, methods, legislation, policies, and curricula aligned with national sector frameworks and Early Childhood theory and international developments to enhance personal and professional capacity as an ECEC educator. Building on pedagogical principles underpinning quality ECEC provision, graduates will have acquired the knowledge and skills to promote, advocate for and maintain ethical and rights-based quality ECEC provision,underpinned by an acknowledgement that ECEC takes place in the context of family, community and culture. Graduates can further identify specialist areas for continued professional development in the ECEC sector, such as Manager, Lead Educator, Inclusion Coordinator and roles in related professions, such as the inspectorate, mentoring and training.
