The M.Arch. is offered as a two-year pathway for students holding a four-year pre-professional degree in architecture from a NAAB-accredited institution, and as a three-and-one-half-year pathway for students without a pre-professional architecture degree. The Master of Architecture (M.Arch.) program at FAMU offers an expanded view of architectural practice that integrates research, innovation, and social engagement. Through a curriculum centered on research informed design studios, students are supported in developing architectural positions aligned with their personal, professional, and ethical aspirations. Beyond the classroom, M.Arch. students benefit from close interaction with architectural professionals, national and international guest lectures, and travel-based learning experiences that broaden perspective and deepen design awareness.The program offers a transformative learning experience that positions architecture as a tool for social justice and cultural awareness, while cultivating environmental responsibility through research driven and performance based design. Students engage questions of spatial justice by examining how architectural decisions shape access, equity, and experience across local, regional, and international contexts.The curriculum further advances environmental stewardship by emphasizing long term ecological thinking, material responsibility, and climate responsive design strategies. At the same time, it prepares graduates to address complex social and environmental challenges through ethically grounded architectural practice informed by human rights, disciplinary rigor, and professional accountability. Graduates of the program are equipped to shape the future of the built environment through innovative practice, scholarship, and leadership, continuing FAMU’s proud legacy of critical inquiry, resilience, and empathy.
