Admission requirements Individual program admission requirements over and above admission to NAU are required. Three letters of recommendation Personal Statement, or essay Completion of a BS/BA in the geosciences or related natural science field. Competencies in the following areas: Physical, chemical, and/or systems-based earth science processes. Mathematical and analytical reasoning. Physics and chemistry; Data collection, analysis, and interpretation; Communicating and presenting scientific data. These competencies are commonly acquired in the following classes: Physical Geology GLG 101 Earth Materials GLG 309 Sedimentology and Stratigraphy GLG 324 Structural Geology GLG 435 Field Methods GLG 340, GLG 440C Calculus I MAT 136 Calculus II MAT 137 Statistics STA 270 or STA 275. Chemistry I CHM 151, CHM 151L Chemistry II CHM 152, CHM 152L Physics I PHY 161 Physics II PHY 262. Applicants will be evaluated based on prior coursework or professional/extracurricular experiences.Applicants must have earned a bachelors degree from a regionally accredited institution and a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 out of a 4.0 scale to be considered for regular admission. Admitted students are expected to have undergraduate educational experiences, including general education studies, that are similar to those required for a baccalaureate at Northern Arizona University. Applicants who have earned their degree(s) from an international institution must submit official transcripts directly from the university or college. The transcripts must be in the original language of the country accompanied by an English translation.
