Molecular biochemistry and biophysics is an interdisciplinary program combining biology, chemistry, and physics with innovative experimental techniques to study biomolecules structurally and biochemically, to understand how they interact with other molecules. Discover the essential building blocks of life, how they fit together, how they work, and the physical methods for exploring these building blocks. With its interdisciplinary nature and research-driven focus, the molecular biochemistry and biophysics degree is a great way to prepare for careers in research, biomedical industry, and medicine. Scientific disciplines are increasingly intertwined, and knowledge traditionally confined to a single discipline is no longer sufficient to tackle many of tomorrow's challenges. Just ask many of our faculty who are affiliated with the advanced facilities at the Argonne National Laboratory to study proteins, their molecular structures, the drugs that interact with them, and/or the development of novel drugs. Access the world-class computing and X-ray facilities available at Argonne. The molecular biochemistry and biophysics program at Illinois Tech features courses in metabolic biochemistry, macromolecular structure and techniques, molecular biophysics, physical biochemistry, and more. Involvement in research is strongly encouraged.
