Researchers in both specializations apply scientific, systematic, data-driven methods relevant to public health research.EpidemiologyResearchers in this specialization examine the incidence and prevalence of health problems, health risk, and factors contributing to population health.Social & Behavioral Health ScienceResearchers in this specialization examine how contributing factors at multiple social-ecological levels impact health-related behavior, health status, and quality of life of individuals and populations.

A completed MPH, MSPH, or closely related public health degree that matches your chosen specialization area in our PhD program:

Epidemiology matches considered: Graduate degree in Epidemiology, Population Health, Global Epidemiology, or related area; prior graduate-level coursework in epidemiology and statistics/biostatistics is required.

Social & Behavioral Health Science matches considered: Graduate degree in Social/Behavioral Health, Community Health, Global Health, or related area; prior graduate-level coursework in behavioral health theory and statistics/biostatistics is required.

A GPA in the masters degree that demonstrates strong graduate-level academic success, which is normally 3.0 or higher

The GRE is optional. You may choose to submit scores to improve your application packet, but they are not required.
