The Department of English invites applications for study leading to the M.A. and Ph.D. degrees. Our program offers graduate courses over a wide range of periods, genres, and critical approaches, and it also gives M.A. students the option of doing a creative writing thesis. Students with undergraduate course deficiencies may be admitted to the Pre-Master's program to complete the background requirements. Expected Duration - 1 year.

The following are minimum requirements to be considered for entry into the program.Admission decisions are based on the qualifications of the applicant as well as the ability of the Department of English, Theatre, Film Media and the University of Manitoba to serve the applicant's intended program of study and area of specialization.To be considered for admission to the English (MA) program, you must have a minimum of a four-year honours degree in English literature (or equivalent) with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in prior English studies and an overall GPA of 3.0.Pre-master's admission requirementsTo be considered for the pre-master's program you must have a minimum of a three-year bachelor's degree in English literature with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the last two full years of university study. Completing the English Pre-MA year does not guarantee entry into the English MA program. A separate application will be required.
