The mission of the program in English is to serve both non-specialists and students planning to do graduate work in English by promoting clear writing and critical reading of English, American, and world literature. The program prepares students for careers in teaching as well as literary and linguistic scholarship it also provides background for such professions as the ministry, journalism, editing, technical or creative writing, counseling, advertising, sales, and law.Our graduates will communicate effectively.Our graduates understand the diversity reflected in literature.Our graduates can analyze and evaluate competing arguments and interpretations.Our graduates can conduct literature searched to access and synthesize information.Our graduates have knowledge of linguistics and literature.
