Lamar University's Bachelor of Arts in English with a teaching certification is for students wanting to teach English and/or literature in grades 7-12. This degree plan is similar to the B.A. in English program except that education coursework is introduced in the student's third and fourth year to prepare them to be a professional educator. The program is committed to fostering sound liberal arts academic experiences and preparing you to meet the educational, professional and cultural needs of the region and beyond. To become a certified teacher in Texas, you must complete an undergraduate degree, pass state exams in both a subject area and in pedagogy and must comply with other state requirements.
