In NEC’s Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education K–12 professional educator preparation program, students learn planning and instruction techniques that help support a child’s overall well-being. Physical education (PE) majors explore exercise physiology, biomechanics, and kinesiology to strengthen their understanding of physical movement and fitness. They then apply their academic knowledge to the educational setting with coursework on instruction techniques, physical education assessments, and movement instruction. The BA in Physical Education program incorporates a hands-on field practicum and student teaching experience to prepare students for careers in K–12 physical education or a related field. Physical education teachers play a key role in the K–12 educational system. In a bachelor’s in Physical Education degree program, students develop their physical education pedagogical skills and then apply them in physical fitness instruction plans. Physical education majors also learn how to adapt lesson plans for students with disabilities. New England College’s program emphasizes experiential learning through coursework on movement instruction, a field practicum, and a student teaching experience. Skills-based courses in creative movement, fitness activities, and team sports strengthen future physical education teachers’ instructional abilities. Courses in the psychology of movement and individual activities provide them with the tools they need to encourage their students to pursue physical fitness outside of school. Graduates leave the program with the knowledge and skills required to pursue licensure as a K–12 physical education teacher.
