Lehigh’s undergraduate major and minor in sociology teaches students statistics, research methods and data analysis, and development of social theory. Lehigh’s sociology students say they value not only what they learn through courses, internships, and independent research, but also the personalized attention and active mentoring they receive from faculty. Sociology is the empirical study of the interaction between social structure and individual behavior. Sociology majors learn how structural processes and individual experience interact to produce a variety of phenomena, including power, inequality, and culture. And they do so through a variety of empirical methods and data analysis that have broad applicability to a variety of future career pathways.
