By selecting the Special Education K-12 Cognitive Impairment Endorsement - Elementary Major you will earn a Bachelor of Science that leads to an elementary education teaching certificate with a K-12 Cognitive Impairment (SA) endorsement. This major prepares you to successfully teach elementary aged students and youth with Cognitive Impairments throughout a variety of K-12 settings. You will learn the skills necessary for assessing, teaching and modifying instruction and curricula for students with Cognitive Impairment. This includes using research-based strategies to promote the development of language, reading, writing, spelling, calculating and thinking. Skill development continues as you learn to plan and implement instruction in a variety of settings and domains, using assistive technology to support students wherever and whenever it is needed. As a student in this program you can take advantage of all that the College of Education has to offer. You may seek advising, apply for scholarships, and participate in activities both in Special Education, the home department for this major, and in the Department of Teacher Education.
