The program leading to a Masters of Science in Entomology is designed for students interested in the study of insect biology and its applications in environmental sciences and management of insects.
Entomology, including insect ecology and biodiversity, insect pathology, biological control and insect pest management, ecology of aquatic insects, and predator- prey interactions, pollination ecology, and computer simulation of insect population dynamics.
The following courses are required to provide a basis in applied entomology:
BIO 461 Insect Biology, Taxonomy and Systematics (4 cr)
Two of the following:
BIO 430 Ecology and Systematics of Aquatic Insects (4 cr)
BIO 444 Pesticides and the Environment (3 cr)
BIO 511 Insect Ecology (3 cr)
BIO 548 Insect Pest Ecology and Management (4 cr)
Graduate Statistics course (3 cr)
Seminar course with presentation (2 cr minimum)
BIO 699 Thesis credits (6 cr minimum)

An applicant should have a Bachelor’s degree with a major in a biological science which includes in addition to basic and advanced biology courses, a minimum of:
1 year of introductory chemistry plus biochemistry and/or organic chemistry
1 semester of calculus
1 semester of physics
Minimum requirements for regular admission:
GPA of 3.0 or above
GRE scores in 60th percentile
Supportive letters of recommendation
The Graduate School requires a minimum score of 80 on the iBT TOEFL or equivalent.
