Prepare for a major in Mathematics/Applied Math/Statistics by taking recommended courses to fulfill the requirements of a transfer degree. Mathematics is the study of structure, form and the relationship among numerical, geometric and logical constructs. Applied mathematics focuses on the application of math to other fields, such as physics and engineering. Statistics is a branch of mathematics dealing with data collection, organization, analysis, interpretation and presentation. The Associate in Arts - Direct Transfer Agreement (AA-DTA) is part of Shoreline’s General Transfer program and is designed to meet the first two years of requirements of most four-year degrees.Mathematicians develop critical thinking, analytical reasoning and problem solving skills that apply to multiple career fields, such as research and development, testing, design, operations, statistical analysis, risk management, computer programming, data processing, networking, investment, sales and teaching. Potential employers include: business, manufacturing firms, market research firms, government agencies, consulting firms, insurance agencies, computer companies, banks and financial organizations, public and private schools.
