The BSE in Mechanical Engineering program at Jefferson is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). You will begin developing science, math, and engineering analysis skills in foundational courses, and progress to using modern computer aided design, and mathematical modeling tools and manufacturing equipment like metal machining and 3-D printing. Engineering design is taught from the first semester and further strengthened in upper-level courses culminating in a two-semester senior design project. For example, mechanical engineering seniors designed, created, and evaluated a harness for guide dogs that results in less stress on the dog. This could result in fewer service dogs retiring due to arthritis caused by the current service dog harness design. Upon graduation, you will be qualified to pursue professional engineering licensure (PE).
