The Special Education Accelerated Master’s Program (AMP) offers exceptional undergraduate students pursuing the BS-Mild Moderate Disabilities Degree the opportunity to earn both a bachelor's degree and master's degree in as few as 5 years.

This AMP accepts only students currently enrolled in the UA College of Education Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education (BS-Mild Moderate Disabilities). Once admitted to the Special Education AMP, students may take up to 12 units of graduate coursework during the senior year that may apply toward both the Bachelor’s and the Master’s degrees.

Graduates of this AMP will earn the BS in Mild Moderate Disabilities with Arizona teacher certification in Mild Moderate Disabilities AND a Master’s Degree in one additional area of special education. Students will choose a Master’s Degree specialization from the following areas.

Special Education (MA) – Severe & Multiple Disabilities

Special Education (MA) – Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Special Education (MA) – Visual Impairment

Students who complete the student teaching requirement of the Master’s Degree program will also qualify to be recommended for Arizona teacher certification in their area of specialization.

Arizona Teacher Certification Severe and Profound Disabilities K-12.

Arizona Teacher Certification Hearing Impaired Special Education, Birth-12.

Arizona Teacher Certification Visually Impaired Special Education, Birth-12.

Completion of a minimum of 75 undergraduate credit hours will be required at the time of application; a minimum of 90 undergraduate credit hours will be required at the time of entry into the AMP. If the student’s GPA falls below 3.3 at the time they have completed 90 units, the student will not be admitted into the program. Courses taken for audit may not be included in the total number of units counted for eligibility or admission.

A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3 on a minimum of 12 units of undergraduate coursework at the UA.

Have successfully completed or be in process of completing the all following courses: Math 105 or equivalent, Math 302A or equivalent, Math 302B or equivalent, English 102, 2nd semester second language proficiency.

Completion of at least 12 earned undergraduate credits in their major at the University of Arizona’s main campus. Units still graded Incomplete, units graded Pass/Fail or units taken as audit will not count toward the requirement of the 12 undergraduate units.

Acceptable English Proficiency credentials:

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - minimum score of 79 iBT (or 60 on the revised PBT with no section score lower than 15). Individual MyBest scores must also be dated within 2 years of the enrollment term to be considered valid.
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - minimum composite score of 7, with no subject area below a 6
Pearson PTE Academic - minimum score of 60
Graduate English Language Endorsement from the Center for English as a Second Language (CESL)
CEPT Full Academic test - offered by our Center for English as a Second Language (CESL), minimum Total score of 110.
